These are some macro photographs of a black and orange jumping spider. I do not know what species this jumping spider is. I found this arachnid in north Texas. I took these macro photographs of a jumping spider with a Canon 5D Mark II and a Sigma 180mm macro lens. I used a Canon MT-24EX twin flash unit for light. I have found a lot of jumping spiders but I have never found one with orange and black.
I held the spider a few times and he wasn't aggressive and didn't bite. Just like most jumping spiders he was very observant. Slight movements would cause him to turn and investigate. Jumping Spiders have some of the best eyes of any arachnid I have seen.
Probably Phidippus Texanus
