Smooth Earth Snake photographs

These are some photographs of a Smooth Earth Snake I have taken.  I shot them with my Canon 5D Mark II.  My lens is a Canon MP-E 65mm 2.8 1x-5x macro lens.  You can take extreme macro photographs with this lens.  Smooth Earth Snakes are a common snake in Texas gardens.  I usually find a dozen or more every year.

 These small snakes only get about 8 inches.  They eat small insects and larva.  There are two types of Earth Snakes.  There are Smooth and Rough Earth Snakes.  Smooth Earth Snakes have smooth scales.  Rough Earth Snakes have keeled scales that make them feel rough.  These snakes are harmless and do not bite.
Smooth Earth Snakes are reptiles which mean they are cold blooded.  Like other reptiles these snake have to have the sun to heat there bodies.  They can sometimes be found in the open in grass soaking up the sun.  If they sense danger they will quickly retreat into the leaves.

These photographs of a Smooth Earth Snake were taken on some old white carpet in my garage.  I had found three of these in the yard that day.

Water Drop photographs

These are some water drop photographs I shot in 2012 or 2013.  most of he water drops were staged using a spray bottle or a ziplock with a hole.  The flowers were at Gussie park in Farmers Branch Texas just outside of Dallas.

I used a Canon Mark 5D II camera with a Canon MP-E 65mm 1x-5x macro lens.  This lens will capture extremely close shots.

These are some of my favorite water drop shots.  I have done quite a few.

Macro photographs of insect

This is a collection of the macro photographs and videos of insects I have taken over the last few years.  I took all of these photographs and videos with a Canon 5D Mark II camera body and a Canon MP-E 65mm 1x - 5x lens or a Sigma 180mm lens.  I also use a Canon MT-24EX twin flash unit.

Tiny Red Mite

This is a set of macro photographs of a Tiny Red Mite.  I took these macro photographs with a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon MP-E 65mm 1x-5x lens.  This Tiny Red Mite was about the size of a grain of salt.

Mother Spider with hundreds of babies

I found this mother spider with egg sacks.  I waited two weeks until the eggs hatched.  Hundreds of babies could be seen around the eggs.  I took these macro photographs with a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon MP-E 65mm 1x-5x lens.

Unknown Red and Black Beetles

I found these ed and lack bug nymphs in my back yard.  They were in 5 clumps and each clump had hundreds of bugs.  I am not sure what species they are.

Mosquito sucking my blood

This is an article about Mosquitoes and their is a video at the end of a mosquito sucking my blood.  Everyone ask me "Arnt you scared your going to get a disease?"  The truth is we get bit by mosquitoes all the time and this one extra one that I let bite me isn't going to really make a difference.

MP-E 65mm macro photographs of flower

This is my latest series of MP-E 65mm macro photographs of flowers. I use this lens on a Mark 5D II with a Canon MT-24EX twin flash. I find that macro photography is my favorite type of photography. The Canon MP-E 65mm lens is a must for anyone interested in doing extreme macros.
