Lady Bug Larva

I was at a local park taking photographs when I came across an unusual orange and black insect larva on some concrete.  I had seen a few of these before but never photographed them and never really took the time to identify them.  I had my Canon MP-E 65mm 1x-5x lens with me so I put it on and snapped a few photographs and a few videos.

Once I got back home I searched and identified these are Lady Bug larva.  I was quite surprised since nothing about the larva indicated to me that it was a going to turn into a lady bug.

A year or so later I observed the same larvas shedding.  A tree in the yard had several of these Ladybug larva on it.  The video below shows a Ladybug larva shedding.

Butterflies in the Garden - Fort Worth Botanical Gardens

Butterflies in the Garden at Fort Worth Botanical Gardens.  These photographs of butterflies were taken at the Fort Worth Botanical Garden exhibit called Butterflies in the Garden in 2013.  Every year the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens host a wide range of butterflies in early spring.
These photographs of butterflies were taken on a Canon 5D Mark II camera using a Canon MT-24EX twin flash and a Sigma 180mm macro lens.  There were a lot of beautiful butterflies in the exhibit.  My family spent about an hour looking at and filming the butterflies.  I don’t remember how many there were but I would guess around 30 different species.

Macro Photographs of Red Harvester Ants

Texas is full of Red Harvester Ants.  In fact my guess would be that other than the invasive Fire Ants, Red Harvester Ants are the next most common species.  These insect love the heat.  Huge nest f Red Harvester Ants are often found in gravel fields and along road ways.

I took these macro photographs of Red Harvester Ants in Double Oak Texas.  The photographs were captured on a Canon 5D Mark II.  The nest has been here at least 2 seasons.  Last year the nest was in the same location.  This spring the nest re-appeared.  There were trails in the grass where these ants travelled so much.

I also took a few macro videos of Red Harvester Ants.  These videos were captured in HD on the same camera using a tripod.

Gray Treefrog photographs

These are some photographs of a Gray Treefrog.  Gray Treefrogs are amphibians that live in the southern United States.  This Gray Treefrog was caught outside of Austin Texas.

These are macro photographs of a Gray Treefrog.  I used a Sigma 180mm macro lens to get these photographs.  I used a Canon MT24-EX twin flash unit to get the light.

Gray Treefrogs do not get very big.  They reach a size of about 2 inches.  They can change colors slighty from a pale gray to a tan to a dark gray and usually have molted patterns on their back.

Green Anole Lizard

These are some Green Anole macro photographs.  Green Anoles are common in the Southern United States.  These lizard can change color from light brown to bright green.  Green Anole hunt and eat insects.  These lizards are good at keeping pest away.  The lizards are shy and will attempt to run away.  If they are captured they will attempt to bite.  The bite is not serious but may draw blood.

These small lizards are native to the United States.  They can be found in the Eastern Texas to the East Coast.  Brown Anoles are invasive and were brought over by accident from Cuba.  Even though the Anole in these photographs is brown in color, it is a Green Anole that is currently in brown phase.

This is an article about Mosquitoes and their is a video at the end of a mosquito sucking my blood.  Everyone ask me "Arnt you scared your going to get a disease?"  The truth is we get bit by mosquitoes all the time and this one extra one that I let bite me isn't going to really make a difference.
